November Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We had a very busy October with the mini – marathon, our field trip to Gro-Moore Farms, a visit from the Brighton Fire Department, Red Ribbon Week and our Halloween celebrations.  Thank you to families who drove on the field trip and sent in treats for our celebrations!!!

The children have been working hard at recognizing their names as well as learning to trace it.  We continue to encourage the children to hold their pencils with a tripod grasp and to follow the orange lines.  They are all doing an excellent job.  Another fine motor skill they have been working on is using scissors.  For some this is a new concept.  We have encouraged all the children to remember to put their thumb in the small hole and the others fingers in the bigger hole.  We also remind them to keep their thumbs up while cutting.  Our last fine motor exercise was while we created our puffy ghosts.  The children needed to tear cotton balls with their pincher grasp.  It did get challenging if they did not hold the cotton ball the correct way.

The children explored the mixing of 2 colors to make another color.  They mixed red and yellow to make orange.  These orange paintings were turned into jack-o-lanterns by having them add a face to it with black paint.  This was a great sensory project and a wonderful way to get their hands messy.

During Red Ribbon week, we talked a lot about making healthy food choices for our bodies and at school.  Many of the conversations revolved around how to keep our bodies healthy by getting exercise, eating healthy foods and keeping our bodies clean.

As the weather gets colder, please send your child in with adequate (labeled) outdoor attire. We try to go out every day unless it is raining, so a warm coat, hat, mittens, scarf, and socks should be brought daily. Boots and snowpants may also be necessary this month. Please practice putting on these items with your child at home so that we can get out in a timely manner

As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Thank you.
